Charles (Chuck) Newman (Co-Founder of MIBB and Founder's Society)Charles Newman is the founder, Chief Executive Officer and President of ReCellular Inc., the world’s largest collector and reseller of cell phones. ReCellular has been recognized as one of Inc magazine’s “Clean 50” companies, Chuck has been an entrepreneur since starting his first company while an undergraduate at the University of Michigan in 1961. Among the companies he founded were Astrotype, the developers of the first computerized word processor, CompuMart, the first retail computer store in Michigan, and Rent-A-Byte, the first computer rental store in the United States. He also founded the Jewish Community Center of Ann Arbor and more recently co-founded the Michigan Israel Business Bridge to promote economic development between Michigan and Israel. Susan Herman ( Co-Founder of MIBB)Susan Herman, a co-founder of the Michigan Israel Business Bridge, is the director of the Michigan Jewish Conference, an organization which represents the political and community relations needs of the statewide Jewish community. She serves on the Executive Committees of the Michigan League for Human Services and the Michigan Council on Crime and Delinquency. She is also a board member of the Michigan Non-profit Association, the Consumers Health Care Coalition, the Holocaust Education Coalition and the Jewish Coalition for Public Education. Ms. Herman has over 30 years experience in community coalition building and advocacy. She is the immediate past director of Michigan Families against Mandatory Minimums, a statewide advocacy organization for criminal sentencing reform. Ms. Herman has worked on public policy issues at local and state levels of government and within all three branches of government. She has developed and conducted training programs nationally on numerous issues including working with children at risk and diversity. Scott Kellman (Founder's Society)F. Scott Kellman has been Chief Executive Officer of Care Investment Trust (CIT) since May 2007 and President since March 2007. Scott has been a Managing Director and Head of Real Estate with CIT Healthcare since January 2007. Scott is a veteran of the healthcare industry and has 23 years of experience deploying capital in healthcare real estate. Prior to joining CIT, Scott was Senior Vice President of business development, at Healthcare Property Investors, Inc. from June 2005 until January 2007, where he was responsible for directing business development and sourcing investment opportunities. In addition, Scott served as Senior Vice President, Treasurer of Tenet Healthcare Corporation from March 2003 until May 2005 where he managed the financial aspects of Tenet's real estate as well as overseeing the company's corporate finance and cash management functions. Prior to that, Scott was an executive officer of Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. from August 1993 until February 2002, where he acquired and provided debt financing for healthcare real estate properties. Scott served as Chief Operating Officer the last three years he was at Omega. In addition, Scott founded and operated Medical REIT, a healthcare REIT, which was merged into Omega Healthcare in August 1993. Scott received an AB in Political Science with high distinction as well as a JD from the University of Michigan. Mike Levine (Founder's Society)Mike Levine has 77 Patents issued and 4 pending. His inventions include the programmable thermostat, Microprocessor architect & P.C. with Sam Irwin, Interactive T.V.guide, on screen programmer for VCR and Low Energy Vacuum System for water distillation and desalination using waste heat from power plants.
Mike founded the following business: Principal Engineer Sycor and Conductron Corp., AA terminals manf computer display terminals, AA Leasing Corp. which leased kitchen equipment to 1200 Dominoes pizza franchises and Quad Six Corp mfg of 500k microprocessor based themostats per year which has since been sold to Honeywell and known as the Magicstat check rated by consumer reports. Mike, a philanthropist who plans to die broke, sits on many boards and consultant for several private and public companies. Additionally Mike was one of the co founders of the Ann Arbor Jewish Community Center. Mike has sponsored research at FAU and UM. The research at FAU college resulted in the team becoming finalists for the inventors hall of fame. Mike is a World Silver Medalist and Five time North American duplicate bridge champion and an avid cyclist. He has 9 grandchildren. Hannan Lis (Founder's Society)Hannan Lis is principal, COO and Board Member of The WW Group, Inc. (Weight Watchers largest franchise group). Besides managing the operations of the WW Group, he is also founder and CEO of Lis Ventures LLC, a venture fund investing in emerging technologies and companies. He is past President of the Jewish Community Centers of Metropolitan Detroit, a National board member of the American Jewish Committee, Midwest President and National Vice President of Jewish National Fund and a member of the Detroit Federation board of governors. He is an investor and board member of many companies in the USA and Israel.
At the state level, Hannan is a board member of the Wayne State University Manufacturing Information Center, past board member of Gleaners Food Bank and the American Diabetes Association. He is Co-President of MOPAC, a democratic Political Action committee. Hannan is originally from Haifa Israel where he and his wife Lisa maintains a second home. Hannan and Lisa have four children.
