Detroit ranked #1 emerging startup ecosystem globally
Detroit was recently ranked the #1 emerging startup ecosystem globally, according to the 2022 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER). For the past 10 years, Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network have published the GSER that provides comprehensive research on 3 million startups and 280+ entrepreneurial innovation ecosystems. One of the many aspects the GSER evaluates is emerging ecosystems, defined as startup communities at earlier stages of growth.
Detroit’s top ranking moved up 13 spots from 2021, which highlights the city’s growth in early stage funding, investor activity, number of scaleups and unicorns, size of local reach, IP commercialization, and talent retention. Additionally, the GSR reported Detroit’s ecosystem value of $90.6 Billion surpassed the value of global cities that include Minneapolis and Hong Kong.
