Advancing Economic Diplomacy Between Michigan and Israel
By Itai Biran, Consul for Political and Commercial Affairs at the Israeli Consulate to the Midwest
The Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest serves as the official representative of the State of Israel across nine Midwestern states, including Michigan.
As part of our mission, we are committed to strengthening the bonds between Israel and the region through meaningful engagement across political, economic, academic, cultural, civil society, and media sectors.
A key partner in these efforts has been the Michigan Israel Business Accelerator (MIBA), a trusted and effective collaborator in advancing what we often call economic diplomacy.
By highlighting Israel’s economic and technological strengths, we foster impactful, mutually beneficial relationships that directly contribute to the economic vitality of Michigan and the broader Midwest.
Our partnership with MIBA has produced tangible results.
Together with MIBA’s leadership and coordination, we have proudly supported initiatives such as hosting Israeli AgTech startups in Grand Rapids, facilitating a tour of major Michigan company headquarters for a delegation of Israeli women leaders in mobility, and contributing to high-impact networking events that resulted in dozens of new business connections.
These collaborative efforts have helped pave the way for pilot programs, technology transfers, research and development partnerships, business investments, and a growing awareness of Israeli innovation across the state.
MIBA consistently demonstrates what a successful economic partnership between Michigan and Israel can look like.
Their leadership, creativity, and results-driven approach ensure that Michigan remains at the forefront of this important international alliance.
